A FAMILY TRADITION

For the last 14 years we have gone on a holiday to the snow with my family. Though the family consistency has changed over the years (we kids dated around for a bit) and the destination changes frequently, the week is always filled with warmth, games, cheese platters, wine and laughter. This years trip took us to Les Menuires, Les 3 Vallees in France. May there be many more editions of this lovely family tradition!

DENMARK MINI BREAK: PART I

Last week we took a little break from work, packed up our stuff and went camping in Denmark. We stayed on this lovely small camping near Silkeborg. The weather was great, the scenery beautiful, we ate like kings/queens on our little camping stove and slept blissfully in our cosy little tent. Ow, how we love camping!! Pictures were taken in/near Silkeborg, Aarhus, Ebeltoft & Legoland.

THIS WEEKEND

*I rode a motorcycle for the first time. It was amazing. I'm totally hooked. I hope to have my license later this year.
*We started packing for our short camping trip to Denmark later this week. We are looking forward to it and the weather is looking very good indeed!
*I gave away vegetable cuttings to anyone who wanted to have them (nobody told me not to plant all the seeds as they might actually all come out).
*I made the tasty Spicy Vegetable Soup with Peanut from New Covent Garden Soup Co.
*We watched Man of Steel, which I enjoyed more than I expected.
*We got our 'country' on and listened to oldies but goodies like Mark Knopfler and The Eagles.

PHOTO FESTIVAL NAARDEN

Today I enjoyed an inspiring afternoon at the Photo Festival in Naarden. This festival is a perfect mix of beautiful pictures shown in an equally beautiful location. The festival is only running for one more week (until the 23rd) so if you are in the neighbourhood make sure you pop by while you can.

HERE COMES THE SUN

Last week it was freezing cold, but the sun gave us some glimpses of spring! Perfect time to get out and ignore the winter cold. I met up with one of my best friends, caught the ferry to the NDSM wharf (one of our favorite hang-out spots) and shot some pictures of her. I can't wait for spring/summer to really kick in!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

Not really a 'holiday' we usually celebrate in my house, but since my bf informed me yesterday to keep tonight open, I'm not taking any chances and baking some heart shaped cookies!

May you all have a lovely Valentine's Day!

TURRACHERHOHE

Each year we try to rent a house in the mountains somewhere in Europe for a family ski vacation. This year we decided on a house in Turracherhöhe, Austria. The ski area was small but beautiful. Unfortunately we seemed to be the only area in Austria that didn't get any new snowfall while we were there. But that didn't spoil our fun. We simply took it easy and enjoyed our view from the house it's hot tub!

FAMILY

A small preview from the shoot I did last weekend. This was my first time shooting with teenagers and it's a whole lot different from shooting with younger kids. I chose to shoot at the NDSM Warf close to my home as I felt it would be a cool location for this age group. It wasn't until after I took the picture that I noticed the tag 'family' above the three boys. So I guess this is what you call a lucky shot!

MR BRIGHTSIDE

Today I participated in a light workshop organized by foam. While doing an exercise outside on a busy Amsterdam street this cheerful fellow passed by and signaled to me to take a picture. He wasn't interested in seeing the result and was gone as quickly as he was there. Nice to meet you strange man. And thank you for the most interesting picture of the day!

THOSE WHO DANCE IN THEIR SLEEP

To get better as a photographer I decided to start taking self-portraits at the beginning of this year. As I didn't have the sort of lifestyle where I could keep up with one each day or each week, I decided to keep it simple: I would shoot one each month. I started off hesitant, got hooked during the middle and shot way more than my goal, and finaly lost focus the second half of the year.

I guess the main point is that I rather take pictures of others than take pictures of myself. However my self-portaits have been very useful in getting to know my camera better and evolving as a photographer. And the fact remains that sometimes the only available model is me.

EDINBURGH

Last weekend I visited the city of Edinburgh. The scottish capital is definately a must see if you are into pretty old buildings and narrow steep streets. We felt this is the perfect city for a short break as everything is in walking distance and easy to navigate. Of course the afternoon ale(s) also helped.
